Sound Design – The Enfilade of 18th-Century Reception Rooms

The result of an artistic residency, Échos (2026–2028) is a creation that evokes, in a sensitive and poetic way, everyday life at La Roche-Guyon Castle and that of its inhabitants during the Age of Enlightenment. Throughout the residency, the Château was transformed into a sound laboratory. Using a recording protocol involving contact microphones, airborne recordings, material vibrations, and the resonances of wood, metal, and stone, every object, every decorative element, and every architectural feature becomes a source of sensory exploration. Doors, locks, and pieces of furniture reveal their acoustic signatures, bringing the invisible and the infinitesimal to the fore. The Château thus becomes a living instrument, whose acoustic data will give rise to this sensitive and poetic immersive experience—sparking the interest and curiosity of visitors of all ages as they explore the site, while awakening their imagination.
